PSNI Thank Person Who Stopped Fleeing Man

The PSNI has praised an individual who assisted in the detention of a male in Belfast City Centre yesterday, 22 May.

A male, who had been seen acting suspiciously in the Glengall Street area, attempted to make off from apprehending officers. Police said a member of the public stepped in and "aided in the detention" of the man.

Writing on Facebook, an officer explained: "He had good reason to attempt to make off as well. Following his apprehension he was searched under the misuse of drugs act and found to have a large quantity of prohibited substances in his possession."

The man was subsequently arrested and spent the night at Musgrave station.

Gun Pointed At Man In West Belfast
A man had a gun pointed at him outside a pharmacy in west Belfast. The incident happened in the Stewartstown Road area at around 5pm on Thursday. Two men were acting suspiciously outside the premises and one of them produced a suspected gun and pointed it at the man before both made off on foot towards the Glasvey area.

A pensioner has been taken to hospital after being shot in the chest by a masked man in Ballycastle, County Antrim. The 74-year-old man was working in a shed at a property in the Islandboy Road area at about 20:45 on Thursday evening when the attacker approached and shot him.

Man Shot In County Down
A 28-year-old man has been shot in the leg in a gun attack in County Down. The man was getting out of his car at the Quays in Killyleagh at about 1.00am on Wednesday morning when a man approached him and shot him. The man is recovering in hospital where his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Co Fermanagh man suffers broken nose in robbery
A Co Fermanagh man has suffered a broken nose after being assaulted by two men at his home in Enniskillen. The 65-year-old man was confronted by two men who forced their way into his home on Sunday. They then assaulted him before robbing his home. It is understood that a sum of money was taken during the robbery.

Pair Arrested Following NI Crime Spree
Two men have been arrested following a string of incidents, including burglary and attempted burglary, in counties Antrim and Down on Monday. Police released details of a crime spree that began between 2pm and 5pm when a house in the Kiln Grove area of Larne was burgled.
