Third man charged with hostel murder

A third man has been charged with the murder of a man in a Belfast hostel earlier this month.

John McCullough, 41, of no fixed address, appeared before Belfast Magistrates Court on Wednesday charged with the murder of Eric Atkinson, a 41-year-old former Royal Irish Ranger, who was found dead by staff at the Lee Hestia shelter in Brunswick Street on 3 March.

When the charge was read to him, Mr McCullough replied "I didn't do it".

David McBratney, 39, of no fixed address, and Edward Beattie, 35, of Carrs Glen Park in Belfast, have already been charged with murder both were remanded in custody two weeks ago.

Mr McCullough was remanded in custody until 5 April to appear along with Mr McBratney and Mr Beattie.

Man Charged With Attempted Murder
A 35-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder over an attack in Coleraine, Co L'Derry. The victim, aged in his 50s, is in a critical condition after being assaulted at a house on the Ballycastle Road on Monday, 26 September. The suspect is due to appear at Coleraine Magistrates' Court on Monday, 17 October.
