Man Extradited From Netherlands To Face Child Sex Abuse Charges
A 62-year-old man is due to appear before Laganside Magistrates Court today to face a series of child sex abuse charges.
The man, who was wanted to stand trial in Belfast for three counts of rape, seven counts of indecent assault against a female, two counts of gross indecency towards a child, and one count of common assault, was arrested in the Netherlands on 07 October. He arrived back in Belfast yesterday, 09 January, following the conclusion of extradition proceedings.
The alleged offences occurred in the Belfast area during the 1990s. Sergeant Davey from the International Policing Unit said that the extradition demonstrates the PSNI's "continued and effective working with international partners to track down wanted persons and bring offenders to justice".
He continued: "In this case we worked closely with the National Crime Agency and authorities in The Netherlands to locate, arrest and extradite this suspect. Our message is clear to anyone who has left Northern Ireland to avoid arrest or the consequences of their actions.
"We will relentlessly pursue those that are trying to delay or deny justice to victims of crime."
