Man Arrested For Attempted Murder After Downpatrick Stabbing
A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a stabbing incident in Downpatrick this morning, Friday 14 March, in which two women were injured.
Police responded to reports of a man armed with two knives attacking two women at a property on Stream Street shortly after 8:30 am. The altercation escalated, with one of the women, aged 35, being violently assaulted in the back garden, sustaining a serious knife wound to her neck and other lacerations to her head and face.
Responding officers intervened and arrested the suspect. The second woman, in her 50s, also sustained stab wounds. "Both women were taken to hospital, one via air ambulance and one by road, however whilst serious, their injuries are not believed to be life threatening at this time," said Local Inspector Eamonn Campbell.
The arrested man has been taken into police custody and will be questioned on suspicion of several offences, including attempted murder.
The scene at Stream Street is currently under forensic examination, and the public is asked to avoid the area.
Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with recorded footage of the incident to come forward. "Please call 101, quoting reference 237 14/03/25," Inspector Campbell said.

Man Released On Bail Over Lurgan Murder

A 43-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an incident at a house in Coleraine, Co L'Derry. It happened at a property on Knockantern Grove in the Mountsandel area on Tuesday, 16 August. The suspect has been arrested on suspicion of possessing of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an offence and assault on police.

A 48-year-old man arrested as part of a major investigation into drugs supply and money laundering in L'Derry has been released pending a report to the PPS. A 34-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman arrested in Newtownabbey as part of the same investigation both remain in custody.
