Met Office Issues Yellow Warnings For Rain And Wind
The Met Office has issued two separate Yellow weather warnings covering Northern Ireland today and over the weekend, advising the public to prepare for heavy rain followed by strong winds from Storm Amy.
Yellow Rain Warning (Thursday)
A Yellow warning for Rain is in place across all of Northern Ireland from 10.02am until 10.00pm today, Thursday, 2 October 2025.
Rain is expected to become heavier and more persistent through the afternoon and early evening. Accumulations of 20-30 mm are likely fairly widely, with in excess of 40 mm possible over high ground. The rain will also be accompanied by stronger winds later on Thursday afternoon, with gusts along exposed coasts potentially exceeding 50 mph. The Met Office warns of a small chance of homes and businesses flooding, a slight chance of power cuts, and probable delays to bus and train services due to spray and flooding on roads.
Yellow Wind Warning (Friday to Saturday)
A second Yellow warning for Wind, associated with Storm Amy, is active from 3.00pm on Friday, 3 October 2025, and will last through to 11.59pm on Saturday, 4 October 2025.
The warning predicts a spell of strong winds, with gusts of 50-60 mph likely in many areas, and up to 60-70 mph possible in more exposed parts. These very strong winds will be accompanied by spells of heavy rain.
Potential impacts include:
• Damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs.
• Power cuts with the potential to affect mobile phone coverage.
• Injuries possible from flying debris and large waves sweeping material onto coastal roads and properties.
• Possible cancellations and longer journey times for road, rail, air, and ferry services.
