Man Charged With Terrorism Offences Following Cross-Border Extremism Probe
PSNI Serious Crime Branch arrests lead to 38-year-old facing court on charges including possession of articles for use in terrorism.
A 38-year-old man has been charged to court by detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland's Serious Crime Branch. The charges follow an ongoing cross-border investigation focused on violent right-wing extremism, which has resulted in a total of three arrests.
The man was detained in Ballynahinch on Tuesday, 9 December, in connection with alleged offences under the Terrorism Act 2000. He is facing charges of:
• Possession of articles for use in terrorism. • Collection of information likely to be of use to terrorists.
• Withholding information which might prevent an act of terrorism.
He is scheduled to appear before Downpatrick Magistrates' Court on Thursday, 11 December. As is routine, the Public Prosecution Service (PPS) will review all charges.
Two other individuals were also arrested as part of the same investigation. A 40-year-old woman, who was arrested in Lurgan, has been released, and a file is being prepared to be reported to the PPS. Separately, a 48-year-old man arrested in Kilkeel has been released following a period of questioning.
The investigation remains active.
