Man Arrested In Newry Over Threats To Elected Representatives
Detectives from the PSNI's Serious Crime Branch have arrested a 46-year-old man in Newry as part of an ongoing investigation into threats directed at local politicians.
The arrest took place on Tuesday, 13 January, following a series of searches conducted in the area.
The individual was detained under the Terrorism Act and is currently in police custody assisting officers with their enquiries. The investigation focuses specifically on reports of threats made against elected representatives within the Newry, Mourne and Down district.
The operation involved a coordinated effort between the Serious Crime Branch and local policing teams to address intimidation aimed at public officials. Detective Chief Inspector Bradley stated: "The man, aged 46, was arrested under the Terrorism Act. The searches and subsequent arrest forms part of an investigation into reports of threats made to elected representatives in Newry, Mourne and Down. The arrested man remains in police custody at this time, assisting with enquiries."
The PSNI has reiterated its commitment to protecting those in public office and ensuring that democratic representatives can carry out their duties without fear of violence or harassment.
According to the police, teams from across the service are continuing to work together to identify those responsible for such threats and to maintain the safety of the wider community.

Man Arrested On Suspicion Of Attempted Murder

A man, aged in his 50s, is in a critical condition in hospital after he was assaulted at a house on the Ballycastle Road on Monday, 26 September. Two other men were also arrested and have been released on bail pending further enquiries.

A 43-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an incident at a house in Coleraine, Co L'Derry. It happened at a property on Knockantern Grove in the Mountsandel area on Tuesday, 16 August. The suspect has been arrested on suspicion of possessing of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an offence and assault on police.

Man Charged With Making Threats To Kill
A 30-year-old man has been charged with making threats to kill. He has also been charged with disorderly behaviour. He is due to appear at Belfast Magistrates' Court today. The charges relate to an incident which occurred at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast over the weekend, following the fatal shooting of Edward Gibson.

Man Released On Bail Over Lurgan Murder
A man arrested in connection with a murder in Lurgan on Sunday, 06 August, has been released on bail pending further enquiries. The body of a man, aged 45, was discovered at a flat on Victoria Street. Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.
