PSNI Extradites Murder Suspect To Republic Of Ireland

Officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland's International Policing Unit have confirmed the successful extradition of a 22-year-old man to the Republic of Ireland. The handover took place on Thursday, 29 January, following close cooperation with Irish authorities.

The individual is wanted in the Republic of Ireland to stand trial in connection with a murder that took place in November 2024.

The man was originally apprehended by the International Policing Unit on 5 November 2025, acting on an extradition warrant issued by the Republic of Ireland. He has remained in custody in Northern Ireland since his arrest, pending the completion of the extradition process today.

Constable Dynes, representing the PSNI's International Policing Unit, said: "We continue to work with our international partners to identify and arrest those wanted in other jurisdictions. In this case, we worked closely with the Irish authorities to arrest and subsequently extradite this male."

The Constable issued a stern warning to those attempting to use the border to escape legal proceedings, adding: "If fugitives travel to Northern Ireland to avoid the consequences of their previous crimes it is only a matter of time before they are arrested and brought before the extradition courts."

"Our message is clear that we will relentlessly pursue those that are trying to delay or deny justice to victims of crime," Constable Dynes concluded.
