Applications Open for 2026 Líofa Gaeltacht Bursary Scheme

The Department for Communities has officially opened the application window for the 2026 Líofa Gaeltacht Bursary Scheme. This initiative offers participants the chance to enhance their Irish language skills by attending immersive courses within Gaeltacht communities.

The scheme is designed to provide a comprehensive cultural experience, combining formal language classes with a variety of activities—including music and sport—all conducted through the medium of Irish. The primary goal is to help learners increase their fluency and confidence while living amongst native speakers.

Eligibility for the bursary is specifically targeted at support for low-income households. The scheme is open to students whose parents receive a means-tested benefit, as well as adult learners who are themselves in receipt of qualifying benefits.

Due to the consistently high volume of applications, the Department has indicated that priority will be given to eligible students and adults who have not been awarded a bursary in previous years. Applicants are encouraged to review the full criteria outlined in the official application documentation to ensure they meet the necessary requirements.

Applications can be made online or by contacting Líofa directly on 028 9051 5114.

The scheme will close on the 17 March 2026 and successful applicants will be notified by the end of April 2026.
