Man Arrested and Weapons Seized Following Benburb Search

A man in his 50s was detained by police on Thursday, 26 February, following a targeted search in the Benburb area.

The operation, conducted by detectives from Mid Ulster CID, took place at a residential property situated on the Ballyvaddy Road. During the search, officers discovered and seized a firearm along with a quantity of ammunition.

In addition to the weaponry, police recovered a significant haul of fireworks and several marine flares from the premises.

The suspect was taken into custody for questioning on suspicion of various firearms and explosives offences. He has since been released on bail pending further police enquiries and is expected to return for additional questioning at a later date.

Man Arrested After Police Launch Investigation Over Taxi Gun Video
Police investigating a video showing video footage of a taxi driver with a suspected gun have arrested a 48-year-old man. The suspect was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of a number of offences which include possession of a firearm or imitation firearm.

Man Arrested Over Murder Of George Gilmore
A 39-year-old man has been arrested by police investigating the murder of George Gilmore. Mr Gilmore, aged 44, was shot in the neck in Carrickfergus on Monday, 13 March. He died from his injuries in hospital the following day, 14 March. The suspect was detained in Co Antrim on Wednesday, 12 April, and is being questioned at Musgrave police station.

Police Seize Suspected Firearm In L'Derry Search
Police investigating a bomb attack in L'Derry on Saturday 19 have seized a suspected firearm during a follow up search in the city. It was discovered on Wednesday evening in the Brandywell area. A spokesperson said: "The recovery of this item will require a public safety operation but we will seek to keep this to a minimum to avoid disruption.

Man questioned about 1988 murder
A man has been arrested in connection with police inquiries into a murder in 1988. The body of Lily Smyth, 66, was found in her flat at Moveen House in Dunmurry on October 9, 1988. The pensioner had been strangled. A police spokesperson said that a 43-year-old man had been arrested and is being questioned at Antrim Police Station.
