Police Appeal Following North Belfast Imitation Firearm Incident
Police are appealing for information and witnesses following the arrest of a man in North Belfast on Friday evening, 20 March.
Detective Sergeant Stevenson stated: "Shortly before 6.25pm, it was reported that a vehicle pulled up outside a property in the Cavehill Road area and a male occupant exited from it, before producing what appeared to be a firearm, and pointing it at the male householder.
"It was reported that the man then approached the property and banged on the front door with the weapon, which was later discovered to be an imitation firearm. Another occupant of the car was also reported to have thrown at a glass bottle at the property." Although the vehicle initially fled the scene, it was subsequently intercepted by officers in the Harmin Drive area. A man in his 40s was taken into custody on suspicion of several offences, including possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, possession of an offensive weapon, and various driving-related offences. He has since been released on bail as police enquiries continue.
Detectives are asking anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have mobile phone or dash cam footage that could assist the investigation, to contact them.
Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting reference number 1500 of 20/03/26. Reports can also be submitted online via www.psni.police.uk/makeareport, or provided anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or at www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
