PSNI Chiefs Welcomes Second Series of Hit Documentary 'Peelers'

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has officially confirmed that a second series of the fly-on-the-wall documentary, Peelers – the PSNI for Real, has been commissioned. The announcement follows what has been described as the overwhelming success and widespread positive reception of the initial series.

Chief Constable Jon Boutcher hailed the production as a landmark for the service, noting its ability to illustrate the complex realities of policing a society transitioning out of conflict. The programme has been credited with providing the public with a rare look at the frontline issues facing officers today.

Welcoming the news of the renewal, Chief Constable Boutcher said: "We are delighted with the overwhelming success and positive feedback we have received on the broadcast of series one of Peelers – the PSNI for Real. This is a landmark programme for policing. The programme reflects the unique challenges of policing a society coming out of conflict. The societal gaps that exist for people in crisis, with grassroots organisations receiving less funding and the challenges facing the Health Service delivering frontline mental health services, policing is increasingly the default service left dealing with people we are neither trained nor resourced to help."

He continued by emphasising the importance of the series in showing the reality of modern life: "This outstanding TV programme shows the audience a side of society they would not normally see and I am delighted to confirm a second series. I want to thank all of the officers and staff who took part in this series, to do so is not a straight-forward decision in Northern Ireland because of the enduring threat to officers. We look forward to working with Third Street on the next series to continue to highlight the amazing work that our officers do."

The documentary series aims to continue its focus on the day-to-day experiences of officers and staff, shedding light on the "amazing work" performed across the region despite significant resource pressures and safety concerns. Details regarding the production schedule for the second series will be managed in collaboration with production company Third Street.
