Man Extradited From Australia To Face Trial In Northern Ireland
A 75-year-old man was extradited from Australia to Northern Ireland on Wednesday 5 August. He is wanted to stand trial for 14 counts of indecent assault on a female and three counts of committing an act of gross indecency with a child.
The alleged offences are said to have taken place in Northern Ireland between the late 1970s and early 1980s. The man was first arrested in Victoria, Australia, in 2023, and completed extradition proceedings with his return today.
He is expected to appear before Laganside Magistrates Court today, Thursday 6 August.
Sergeant Davey from the International Policing Unit said: "Today's extradition demonstrates our commitment to tracking down those wanted for serious offending here in Northern Ireland.
"In this case we worked closely with the UK Home Office and Australian authorities to locate, arrest and return this suspect. Our message is clear to anyone who has left Northern Ireland to avoid the consequences of their actions. We will relentlessly pursue those that are trying to delay or deny justice to victims of crime."
He added: "The Police Service of Northern Ireland appreciates the excellent help and support from our partners in the Australian Federal Police based in Victoria. We will continue to work together to make sure offenders are brought before the courts."

A DIY raincatcher, or mini waterbutt, can be made from an empty plastic milk bottle. Once decorated and secured to a fence, it can store rainwater for jobs such as watering plants.

Traffic Disruption Expected As Apprentice Boys Parade Takes Place In L'Derry On Saturday
The annual Apprentice Boys of Derry parade will be held in the city on Saturday 8 August.
