Man Extradited From Germany To Northern Ireland
A 29-year-old man has been returned to Northern Ireland from Germany to face trial over offences linked to a 2018 incident in Portrush.
He was extradited on Thursday, 9 April 2026. He is wanted to stand trial in Northern Ireland for one offence of robbery and one offence of possession of an offensive weapon.
The offences took place in the Portrush area in November 2018. The man was granted bail at Antrim Crown Court on 29 March 2023 but failed to attend his trial on 11 September 2023, when a warrant was issued for his arrest. He was arrested by police in Essen, Germany, on 22 January 2026 on foot of an extradition warrant sought by detectives from Coleraine Criminal Investigation Department. Extradition proceedings concluded today, Thursday 9 April, with his return to Northern Ireland.
He is due to appear before Antrim Crown Court today, Friday, 10 April.
Sergeant Davey from the International Policing Unit said: "Today's extradition demonstrates our commitment to tracking down fugitives wanted here in Northern Ireland.
"In this case we worked closely with national and international partners to locate, arrest and extradite this fugitive.
"Our message is clear to anyone who has skipped bail or left Northern Ireland to avoid the consequences of their actions. We will relentlessly pursue those that are trying to delay or deny justice to victims of crime."
