PSNI Arrests 37-Year-Old In Belfast For Extradition To Australia
A 37-year-old man wanted by Australian authorities over alleged historic child sexual offences has been detained in Belfast and is due in court today as extradition proceedings begin.
Officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland's International Policing Unit made the arrest on Tuesday, 15 September 2026.
He is sought to stand trial in Victoria, Australia, in connection with alleged child sexual offences dating back to 2008 and 2009. Superintendent Marty Reid, Head of PSNI Extradition said: "This arrest is yet another example of the Police Service of Northern Ireland working with our international partners to locate, arrest and bring before the courts those who are wanted for serious offences abroad.
"The Police Service of Northern Ireland is committed to tracking down fugitives and supporting Law Enforcement Partners across the world.
"We are increasingly engaged with partners in Interpol and Europol to collectively deliver justice both here in Northern Ireland and abroad."

Witness Appeal After Two-Vehicle Collision On Monagh By-Pass
Police are seeking witnesses and dash-cam footage after a two-car collision on the Monagh By-Pass in west Belfast. A report of the crash, involving a blue Volkswagen Golf and a silver Ford Kuga, was received at around 7.15pm on Sunday, 13 September. Officers attended the scene along with colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service.

The Ombudsman's investigation highlighted that police currently have no disability access vehicles to convey wheelchair users to custody suites. Investigators recommended the PSNI either procure a wheelchair-friendly vehicle for each district or establish whether a suitable ramp could be sourced and fitted to a cell van in every district.
