Traffic And Travel Advice Ahead Of Strabane Halloween

Derry City and Strabane District Council has advised residents and visitors to expect minor traffic and travel disruption in Strabane on Saturday, 31 October, as Halloween celebrations take place in and around the town centre.

Castle Street will be closed from 7am to 6pm on Saturday to accommodate family-friendly activities planned for the town centre.

The fireworks display is scheduled for 7pm at the Melvin Running Track. For safety reasons, the pedestrian footbridge and surrounding paths at Melvin Running Track will be closed from 6.45pm to 7.30pm. Access to Melvin Road and the Ballycolman Estate will be restricted to residents only between 6.30pm and 7.30pm. Members of the public are encouraged to use the Strabane Sigersons GAA car park or town centre car parks.

Drivers are reminded that normal on-street parking restrictions will apply. Please do not obstruct residents, businesses or access for emergency services. Accessible viewing will be available at the Melvin Arena car park.

The Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor Grace Uí Niallais, urged people to plan their journeys in advance, saying: "There are only a few days to go until we all come together to celebrate Halloween in Strabane. Council has worked hard to keep disruption to a minimum, but it would be beneficial if everyone could familiarise themselves with any closures ahead of next Saturday. Plan ahead and think about where you will park your car or how you will get to the fireworks display. Please adhere to the advice of Council staff when you are out and about," she continued.

"I hope everyone has their costume picked and are ready to enjoy the fireworks and all the Halloween entertainment planned for the Strabane area. Plan ahead, stay safe and have fun everyone."

Residents with pets sensitive to fireworks may wish to take steps to minimise disturbance during the display between 7pm and 7.20pm. The Council apologises for any inconvenience caused.
