Bangor man charged with murder remanded in custody

A 36-year-old man has been remanded in custody charged with the murder of a woman in Co Down on Monday.

David Jones, 36, of Lismore Avenue in Bangor appeared before Downpatrick Magistrates Court on Thursday charged with killing Pauline McConnell, 41, whose body was found in a ground floor flat at Lismore Avenue on the Whitehill estate in Bangor.

Police have confirmed that the cause of death was a stab wound to the chest.

A police officer told the court on Thursday that the defendant made no reply when charged, however the officer said he believed he could connect the accused to the charge.

Mr Jones was remanded in custody to appear via video link in Newtownards on 14 January.

Police Investigate Armed Robbery At Ballycastle Supermarket
An investigation has been launched following the armed robbery of a supermarket in Ballycastle on Tuesday, 09 April. It was reported to police, that at around 11pm a masked man entered the Castle Street store carrying a spray bottle of an unknown substance. The man approached a cashier and demanded money, threatening them with the spray bottle.

Police Attacked By Young People In West Belfast
The PSNI have condemned the assault of four police officers when they were attacked by young people in West Belfast. At around 6:50pm on Saturday, 06 April, police received a report in relation to community concerns that a large group of young people had congregated in Falls Park and that alcohol was being consumed by children.

Police Investigating Man's Death Following Ballynahinch Collision
The PSNI have launched an investigation into the circumstances leading to the death of an elderly man following a collision in Ballynahinch. It it understood that police were called at approximately 4.10pm on Monday 08 April, to reports of the "sudden death"of an elderly man at a quarry in the Newcastle Road area of Seaforde.
