Teenage girl indecently assaulted in Coleraine

A teenage girl has been indecently assaulted in Co Londonderry.

The 18-year-old was walking along Windyhill Road in Coleraine at around 5pm on Monday when a man in a car offered her a lift. When she refused the man drove off before coming back a short time later where he got out of the vehicle, grabbed her shoulders and tried to kiss her.

The victim eventually broke free and pulled out her mobile phone, scaring the man off.

Elsewhere, police have appealed for information after a man tried to get a schoolgirl into a car in Newtownabbey at the weekend. The incident happened as the 14-year-old was walking in Coolderry Gardens in the Rathcoole estate on Saturday night.

A burgundy coloured car pulled up alongside her and the driver told her to get in, however she was able to run to the rear of nearby multi-storey flats, where she saw the vehicle again. She was then able to make her way to a friend's house an raise the alarm.

The assailant is described as being aged in his late 40s to 50 with a balding head.

Anyone with information on either incident is asked to contact detectives on 028 9065 0222 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
