PSNI announce 'Policing with the Community' awards

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) today announced the winners of the annual 'Policing with the Community' awards.

The scheme, developed by the PSNI in partnership with the Northern Ireland Policing Board, is designed to recognise and honour the commitment of officers and staff.

Deputy Chief Constable Paul Leighton said the Awards allowed the PSNI to publicly recognise and reward outstanding examples of “local police engaging in partnership with local people to find local solutions to local problems”.

Policing Board Chairman, Professor Sir Desmond Rea, said policing with the community was at the heart of policing in Northern Ireland.

“Through partnership working with local communities Northern Ireland is being made safer,” Sir Desmond said.

The winners in the six categories were: Community Police Officer of the Year, Constable Stephen Gibson; Lifetime Achievement Award, Constable Steven Burrows; Partnership Award, Foyle District Command Unit; Diversity Award, North Belfast District Command Unit; Staff Member of the Year, Nadine Fee, Carrickfergus; and Probationer of the Year, Constable Stuart Harper, South Belfast.
