Dallat hits at 'disgusting and cowardly' attack

SDLP assembly member John Dallat has described an attack which left a man with a broken jaw as "disgusting and cowardly".

The victim and his two sisters were woken when three masked men armed with an axe broke into their house at Maghera Street in Kilrea at about 4.30am on Tuesday.

The man struggled with the robbers, who also had a hatchet, but they eventually escaped with a sum of money.

"This family must have been through hell and I would not want any other family to be put through what they have experienced," Mr Dallat said.

"The use of physical violence coupled with robbery makes it imperative that the gang responsible are caught before another innocent family is put through another ordeal of this nature."

He appealed for anyone with information about the incident to get in contact with the police.
