Flight diverted as man from Belfast is restrained
A flight from Mexico was forced to divert to Florida after a Polish man from Belfast became drunk and abusive.
Over 200 passengers were travelling on the plane from Cancun to Manchester, when the man who is said to have drunk alcohol that he brought aboard the flight, got into an argument with the person sitting next to him.
A number of passengers had to assist crewmembers in restraining the man.
It is believed that there were two altercations with the man, before the captain decided to land the aircraft at Sanford International Airport in Orlando, Florida.
The man has been named as Rafal Krawczyk, who has a Polish passport and lives in Belfast.
Florida police were called to the airport and escorted the man off the plane where he was later taken into custody.
He has been charged with interfering with a flight crew and will appear before the federal court in Orlando on Tuesday for an initial appearance.
Passengers on the flight were put up in hotels, before being flown on to Birmingham yesterday.

Belfast International Airport Serves 5.9m Passengers In 2023
Latest figures show that 2023 was a successful year for Belfast International Airport as it served 5.9 million passengers. Annual traffic results published by VINCI Airports show that there were almost 50,000 total aircraft movements at Belfast International in 2023, which is an increase of 23 per cent on 2022 figures.
