Attempted abduction in west Belfast

Police in west Belfast have appealed for information following the attempted abduction of a child yesterday afternoon.

The incident happened at around 12.30pm, when a 10-year-old boy was approached by two men in a red-coloured Peugeot car as he walked along the Highfield Drive area of the city.

The men asked the child if he had seen a dog, then proceeded to try to entice him into the vehicle.

The child ran away and managed to escape unharmed.

One of the men is described as being between 30 and 35-years-old, with tanned skin and a bald head.

His accomplice is said to be aged between 25 and 30-years-old, with dark hair, and a small growth of hair under his bottom lip.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who may have noticed the car in the area around the time of the attempted abduction, are asked to contact police at New Barnsley on 0845 600 8000 or anonymously on the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.
