Police appeal following robbery in Portadown

Police are appealing for information following a robbery shortly before 8pm last night in Portadown, Co Armagh.

A woman was walking home from the town centre when a youth approached her at the junction of Church Street and Ormonde Street and attempted to grab her shoulder bag. When she resisted, a second youth produced a knife and threatened her. The two youths then made off on foot with the bag.

One of the robbers was described as being 5’3 to 5’4, stocky and between13 to 15 years of age. He was wearing a navy blue bomber jacket with a white stripe on the sleeve and a black woollen hat. The second youth is described as being 5’7, slim and aged around 16 to 17 year of age. He was wearing a cream bomber jacket and a black woollen hat. He had blonde or blonde streaked hair.

Police are appealing to anyone who can help identify the robbers or who may have seen two youths answering this description in the area of Church Street or Ormonde Street in Portadown at around the time of the attack.

Cannabis plants and herbal cannabis were discovered during search in the High Street area in Draperstown on Wednesday. A 35-year-old man has been charged with possession and cultivation of class B drugs with intent to supply.

A police officer was justified in firing a baton round at a 17-year-old armed with a knife during an incident in west Belfast on 9 March 2014, according to the Police Ombudsman.

Tennent Street Bomb Alert Over
A security alert in north Belfast sparked by the discovery of a suspicious object under a car has been declared a hoax. Army bomb experts examined the suspicious package which was found underneath a car close to Tennent Street police station on Monday after several homes were evacuated during the alert.

Police Appeal For Information On Paramilitary-Style Shooting
Police have issued an appeal for information on a paramilitary-style shooting in the New Lodge area of north Belfast on last week. A 20-year-old man sustained a gunshot wound to his leg in an incident on Churchill Street at about 10.30pm on Thursday, 17 May.
