Five remanded in custody over Rostrevor attack

Five people have appeared at Newry Magistrates Court today in relation to the assault of two men in Rostrevor, County Down on Tuesday morning.

Two 18-year-old men, a 19-year-old man, a 20-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl have been remanded in custody and are due to appear before the court again on August 1.

The attack, which happened on the Kilbroney Road, left the two men in hospital with head injuries and a police officer told the court that he believed he could connect all five to the charges.

James Alan Kennedy, 18, of Old Killowen Road, Rostrevor, Sean Paul Meagher, 20, of Second Avenue, Newry, and Martin Ruddy, 19, of Larchmont in Newry, are also charged with robbery.

Seamus Stephen Headley, 18, of Gleann Street, Rostrevor, and a 16 year old girl, who can not be named because of her age have also been charged with robbery as well as a further charge of grievous bodily harm.

22-Year-Old Man Jailed For Rape At Laganside Crown Court
A 22-year-old man has been sentenced to six years for rape at Laganside Crown Court. Ahmad Alsbaihi was sentenced to six years. He will serve three years in custody and three years on licence. He will be placed on the Sex Offenders Register and will be subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) for 10 years.

Woman And Children Held Captive In Aggravated Burglary
The PSNI have issued an appeal for information after a woman and four young children were held captive as their home was ransacked in an aggravated burglary in East Belfast on Saturday, 06 April. Police received a report that around 10.45pm, four masked men entered a house in the Greenwood Hill area of Castlereagh.

Two Men Jailed For 'Horrific And Callous' Murder Of Roy Reynolds
Two men have been jailed at Belfast Crown Court in connection with the "horrific and callous" murder of Roy Reynolds in County Antrim in 2022. Michael Campbell, 34, was handed a life sentence last December after pleading guilty to Mr Reynold's murder.
