Man Remanded Over Rape Charge

A man has been remanded in custody charged with raping a woman in County Tyrone.

The 20-year-old man who cannot be named for legal reasons has also been charged with assault and grievous bodily harm to the woman.

The charge relates to an attack in Stewartstown in County Tyrone on Sunday.

A police officer told Dungannon Magistrate's Court that the accused, who is from Argentina, made no reply when the charges were put to him. The officer said he believed he could connect him to the charges.

Police are also objecting to bail as they have concerns that the accused would try to interfere with prosecution witnesses and they also fear that the man would try to leave the country.

The man was remanded in custody until Wednesday.
