Visitors Focus On Province's Policing

A delegation from Macedonia has been in Belfast learning about best practice for the oversight of policing.

The delegation was on a four day study visit facilitated by the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission to meet The Chairman of the Northern Ireland Policing Board Professor Sir Desmond Rea, Chairman of the Northern Ireland Policing Board briefed the delegation and commented: "I outlined how the Board holds the PSNI to account through the Chief Constable, from setting and measuring against targets and objectives to questioning the Chief Constable at meetings in public."

Speaking about the visit, Uranija Pirovska, State Councillor for International Ombudsman and Public Relations said: “The aim of the delegation is to learn from models of best practice in the oversight of policing. We appreciate the opportunity to question the Chairman on how the Board holds the Police Service to account and how effective the policing structures have become in Northern Ireland.”

PSNI performance figures released

SDLP issues 12 point plan for safer communities
The SDLP have issued a 12 point plan which it says will lead to safer communities if implemented. Policing spokesman Alex Attwood said his party would be pushing for full implementation of the plan over the next fours within the District Policing Partnerships and the Policing Board.
