Armagh Meat Plant Expansion Creates New Jobs
There's new jobs 'at steak' in County Armagh as a local meat plant is set to create about 30 new jobs through the development of a new product range.
Loughall's Hewitt Meats, which currently employs 32 people, exports about 50% of its products outside NI and is about to expand into the more lucrative 'branded' sector.
Managing director James Hewitt, who founded the firm in 1974, said the expansion includes a "very significant investment in marketing activities".
Mr Hewitt said he hoped this would help to further raise the company's profile, especially outside Northern Ireland.
"Our focus on new branded products is designed to move us away from high volume sectors which have low margin and are fiercely competitive," he added.
MEP Jim Nicholson officially marked the expansion plan by opening a new £750,000 expansion facility at Hewitt Meats, in mid January.
