Family robbed at gunpoint in Kilkeel

A man has been forced to hand over money while his family were held at gunpoint during an armed robbery in County Down.

The man arrived at his home on the Newry Road, Kilkeel, at about 1.40am on Thursday morning and was attacked by four men.

Two of which police said were at least armed.

They struck him on the head and bound his hands before forcing him into the house.

The man’s wife and young children were then held by two of the men, who were armed with a handgun and a sawn-off shotgun, while the man was taken away.

He was driven to Warrenpoint where he was forced to hand over money after his family were threatened.

The men then hooded the man and abandoned him in the countryside.

He was later treated for injuries sustained in the attack, none of which are thought to be serious.

Detectives at Newry have appealed for information regarding the attack.
