Care Home Battle Defeats 106-Year-Old

One of Britain's oldest women has lost her bid to stop the closure of her council-run care home.

The family of Louisa Watts, who is 106-years-old, took out an injunction against Wolverhampton City Council to prevent the closure of Underhill House.

The injunction was overturned earlier by the Court of Appeal.

Lord Justice Sedley said: "If there were any firm findings that moving Mrs Watts would shorten her life the decision would be quite different.

"Mrs Watts is entitled to the full benefit of every day that still remains to her."

He told the campaigning solicitor Yvonne Hossack there were no grounds for an appeal.

"Provided it is properly managed it should not do her any appreciable harm," he said.

Mrs Watts moved into the home four years ago. She previously said she was very happy there and would be very upset to leave.
