Man Arrested Over Stockwell Shooting

Trident detectives investigating a shooting in Stockwell that left a five-year-old girl and a 35-year-old man critically injured have arrested a man.

The 19-year-old man was arrested in south London yesterday afternoon and is currently in custody at a south London police station whilst enquiries continue.

Yesterday officers investigating the shooting also confirmed that one of the youths they were seeking, as a possible intended target, had come forward.

In addition, Crimestoppers in association with the Association of Convenience Stores, announced a reward of up to £50,000 for crucial information leading to an arrest and conviction in relation to the shooting.

On Tuesday 29 March police were called to reports of shots fired in Stockwell Food & Wine shop, Stockwell Road, in south west London.

A five year old girl, named Thusha Kamaleswaran, was shot in the chest and a 35-year-old man, named Roshan Selvakumar was shot in the face. They were both taken to a south London hospital. Their conditions are now described as stable but serious.

Two youths, who police believe were the intended targets, ran into Stockwell Food and Wine on just before the shots were fired. One of these youths has come forward and is being spoken to by police.

Another of the youths had been chased from Broomgrove Road, across Stockwell Road, and into the shop by three other males, described as black youths, on bicycles. Once the youths on bikes were outside the shop, one of them fired shots into the shop front.

An incident room has opened under Detective Chief Inspector Tony Boughton, of Trident.

DCI Tony Boughton said: "The investigation is progressing well. Overnight we have viewed CCTV of the incident and are now beginning to get a clearer picture of what happened. One of the youths who first ran into the shop has come forward and is assisting us with our enquiries. We are still trying to trace the other individual and appeal to him to come forward.

“We have had a good response from the local community but continue to appeal to anyone who might have seen these youths cycling around the Stockwell area between 20:00 and 22:00 on Tuesday night."
