Drugs Seized In Multi-million Pound Swoop

More than £2.5 million of cocaine has been seized by police and five people arrested during a proactive operation in Tooting, South London.

Officers from the Metropolitan Police Service's Central Task Force - part of its Specialist Crime Directorate - recovered the haul of Class A drugs during a series of raids on residential properties and vehicles yesterday afternoon and in the early hours of this morning.

During the operation five men - aged between 25 and 45 - were arrested and 70 kilos of cocaine and a million pounds of cash were seized.

The operation marks the disruption of a sizeable organised criminal network involved in the large-scale importation of illegal drugs in to the UK.

All five men have been taken to south London police stations where they remain in custody.

DCI Steve Wagstaff of the Central Task Force said: "This operation is the result of a continued focus on disrupting the supply of Class A drugs on the streets of London and the inevitable violence and crime linked to this."
