'Anger At Police Caused August Riots', Says Study
Anger with the police fuelled the unrest during the August riots in England, so says a Guardian-LSE study of the riots.
A study into the cause of the riots, which erupted across England, has said that in every major area where riots erupted public relationships with the police were cited as significant influencers.
According to the Guardian hundreds of interviews with people who took part in the disturbances revealed deep-seated and sometimes visceral antipathy towards police.
This revelation comes after a unique collaboration between the Guardian and London School of Economics (LSE) who interviewed some 270 people that took part in riots in London, Birmingham, Liverpool, Nottingham, Manchester and Salford. The study managed to collect 1.3m words of first hand accounts of the riots.
Out of those questioned, 85% said policing was an "important" or "very important" factor in why the riots happened.
It was second only to poverty, which saw 86% of rioters class it as one of the main causes of the four consecutive nights of unrest during the summer.

Police study London bomber video shown on al-Jazeera
A security assessment is being carried out on a video made by one of the bombers behind the July 7 London attacks. The video, broadcast on the Arabic news channel al-Jazeera, showed 30-year-old Mohammed Siddique Khan, blaming the British government’s policy on Iraq for suicide bomb attacks against the country’s citizens.

Riots Continue In London Overnight
There has been a fresh wave of rioting overnight across London following Saturday night's disturbances in Tottenham. The Metropolitan Police said that "copycat criminal activity" broke out in Enfield, Walthamstow, Waltham Forest and Brixton on Sunday night.

PM Criticises Police Over Riots
Prime Minister David Cameron has admitted that there were too few police on the streets to deal with the recent spate of rioting across England. Speaking during an emergency recall of Parliament today, Mr Cameron also announced a number of measures to deal with the recent disturbances, including a crackdown on facemasks and a review of curfews.

Police Officer Arrested Over Uefa Cup Riots
A police officer has been arrested on suspicion of being involved in a violent football riot in Manchester. The man arrested, an Essex Police officer, was off-duty at the time of the clashes in Manchester city centre, as Glasgow Rangers were playing Zenit St Petersburg in the UEFA Cup Final last May.
