Man Suffers Serious Head Injuries In Assault

Police are appealing for witnesses to an assault in Newcastle that left a man in a critical condition.

The incident was reported to officers at 2.09am on Friday after a 28-year-old man suffered serious head injuries following an assault in the Bigg Market.

The injured man was taken to Newcastle's RVI where is condition is currently described as critical.

A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault in connection with this incident and in custody helping officers with their enquiries.

Police are appealing for witnesses, anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact Northumbria Police on 101 ext 69191 or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

'Man 'critical' after Manchester assault
Police have appealed for information following the assault of a man who confronted youths outside his home in Greater Manchester, which left him in a critical condition. The 27-year-old was attacked outside the house in Newhay Avenue, Benchill on Saturday night around 10:30pm, when he went outside to confront two youths throwing eggs.

Man Arrested Over Sexual Assault In Somerset
Police investigating a sexual assault in Somerset, during which a mother and child were tied up and held at knifepoint, have arrested a 59-year-old man. Police arrested the man on suspicion of aggravated burglary and sexual assault, in connection with the incident in Sydenham, Bridgewater on 21 January.

Car Parking Row Man Dies
A salesman has died after an alleged assault following an argument over a parking space. The 53 year-old man collapsed, shortly after 2pm on Tuesday, after being involved in the fight behind some shops in Griffnock, East Renfrewshire. He later died at the Victoria Infirmary in Glasgow.

Notts Confirm Arrest Over Alleged Sex Assault
Notts County FC have confirmed that one of their players has been arrested in connection to an alleged sexual assault at a London hotel over the weekend. The club's striker, Lee Hughes, is believed to have been taken into custody on suspicion of sexual assault after an incident involving a woman at the hotel on Saturday.
