Man Arrested Over Suspicion Of Two-Year-Old's Death

Manchester police have confirmed the arrest of a 22-year-old man in connection with the death of a two-year-old on Sunday.

Police were called to a house in Cheriton Drive in the Breightmet area of Bolton on Sunday after reports the boy was having a cardiac arrest.

The boy, named as Rio Smedley, was taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital but died shortly after.

The arrested man has been confirmed as the partner of the boys mother, Kirsty Smedley.

Det Supt Jon Chadwick said the investigation was at an early stage, adding: "I would like to extend my sympathies to this young boy's family and friends at what is clearly a very difficult and emotional time for everyone."

Boy, 10, Arrested In Connection With Death Of 79-Year-Old Man
A 10-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the death of a man in Harehills, Leeds. On Sunday police were contacted by the ambulance service who were tending a 79-year-old man with a head injury in Back Hill Top Avenue. He was taken to Leeds General Infirmary for treatment but was pronounced dead a short time later.

Eight Men Arrested Following Dawn Raids
Over 100 police officers have carried out a series of raids concerning child sexual exploitation offences in Oxford. Eight men were arrested following the raids at 6am this morning 2 June. Police are investigating approximately 60 offences in connection with the operation relating to female victims in Oxford between 1999 and 2007.

Police Dig Up Pub Patio In Search For Missing Landlady
Police investigating the disappearance of a landlady in Cambridgeshire in 1997 are digging up the patio of her former pub. Deborah Steel, 37, was landlady of the Royal Standard in Ely, Cambridgeshire, when she disappeared on 28 December 1997. Police have said that Ms Steel's disappearance is now being treated as a murder investigation.

Wanted Man Arrested In London
The man wanted in connection with the murder of a 66-year-old man who intervened during a robbery, has been arrested. Ian John McLoughlin, 55, was arrested in London at around 01:00. He was wanted on suspicion of murder and robbery. Airports and ports had been put on alert as police hinted for McLoughlin.
