Cameron Warns Of Gay 'Witch Hunt'

David Cameron has warned of a 'witch-hunt' against gay people over public child abuse allegations.

The PM made the comments on ITV1’s This Morning programme when the subject of recent child abuse allegations linked to No 10 was brought up.

Mr Cameron was handed a list of names of people thought to be paedophiles currently circulating online.

He did not look at the list but said anyone with information should go to the police.

Rumours have been circling of Conservative politicians during Thatcher’s government being involved in child abuse.

The rumours surfaced when Labour MP Tom Watson raised the issue of abuse in care homes in north Wales in the Commons a fortnight ago.

This Morning presenter Philip Schofield told David Cameron there were lots of allegations online about people who might have carried out abuse.

The PM said he had heard "all sorts of names being bandied around".

Mr Schofield handed Cameron a card with the names on it during the live interview and claimed they were people Mr Cameron knew.

He asked David Cameron whether he would be talking to them.

Mr Cameron replied with a warning: "There is a danger, if we're not careful, that this could turn into a sort of witch-hunt, particularly against people who are gay and I'm worried about the sort of thing you are doing right now - giving me a list of names that you've taken off the internet."

He said any information about people involved in child abuse should go to the proper authorities: "no matter how high up in British society they are - that's what the police are for".
