Millionaire property tycoon refused bail
Millionaire businessman Nicholas van Hoogstraten, who was jailed over his part in the murder of a business associate, has been refused bail at the Court of Appeal today.
Last year, Van Hoogstraten, 58, who is appealing his conviction for manslaughter, was jailed for 10 years for paying two gunmen to murder Mohammed Raja in July 1999.
Refusing bail the judge ruled that there were "no exceptional circumstances" relating to van Hoogstraten's application.
Robert Knapp, 55, of Co Limerick, and David Croke, 60, of Moulsecoomb, Brighton, are both serving life terms for the murder of Mr Raja.
Property tycoon van Hoogstraten will remain in Belmarsh Prison until his court date, which has yet to be set.

Millionaire businessman Nicholas van Hoogstraten, who was jailed for the manslaughter of a business associate, has had his conviction quashed and a retrial ordered at the Court of Appeal today. The property tycoon will remain in custody and face a manslaughter charge in 28 days time. It is expected that he will be back in court within two months.
