Scotland Braced For More Wintry Weather
Drivers in Scotland have been warned to take care over the coming week, as the country experiences the first heavy snowfall of winter.
Scotland has had a weekend of snow and sleet mixed with low temperatures, creating treacherous conditions on the roads.
Nearly 80 accidents were reported to Grampian police alone over the weekend, while roads and schools were closed across the country.
Now forecasters are predicting further heavy snow over the coming days.
Transport Scotland have met police, forecasters and transport operating companies to prepare for the cold weather.
Transport Scotland's network manager Stewart Leggett said: "As this is expected to be the first widespread snow of the winter, our Multi Agency Response Team will be operational tomorrow morning to monitor how the transport network is coping.
"We would urge people to be extra careful in icy conditions. This is a timely opportunity to remind the public of the wide range of advice that's available, including live travel information and tips on preparing for and driving in bad weather."
Meanwhile, winter-sports fans have taken to Scotland’s ski centres to make the best of the freezing conditions.
Cairngorm and the Lecht, near Aberdeen, are now open and are reporting good snow cover.
The weather will be a boost to business at the resorts, as the beginning of the year created only very limited conditions for skiing.

Cold weather set to continue
The current cold spell gripping the UK is set to continue, the Met Office has warned, with more snow showers expected across England and Wales today. South East England could see accumulations of snow of between 3 to 7cm, due to persistent snow showers, the Met Office warned.

Snow Troops 'Draughted' In
As the streets of the Scottish capital suffered the heaviest snowfalls in nearly 50 years, Army troops have been drafted in to help remove the snow and ice and held to ease the freezing 'draught of winter' for Edinburgh. It is experiencing up to 30cm of snow leaving some of its most vulnerable residents snowed indoors.

Scotland's Winter Fleet 'At Full Strength'
The Scottish Government has said its winter fleet is at 'full strength' as it prepares for the cold season. Over 50 new gritting trucks will be deployed on Scotland's roads this winter. A total of 205 machines will spread salt and plough snow across the country's trunk roads.

Drivers urged to take care in wintry conditions
With the first severe wintry weather expected to hit the UK tonight, the Highways Agency has reminded drivers to be prepared and to slow down and take care in sleet and snow. The Met Office is currently forecasting sleet and snow with strong winds across many parts of the UK tonight.

More snow expected to affect UK overnight
The Highway Agency has warned motorists to take extra care on the roads tonight and tomorrow morning, as more snow and low temperatures have been forecast for many areas of the country. The Met Office has warned that snow and black ice could pose major problems for motorists in central and southern areas on Friday.
