Coulson Denies Hacking And Bribery Charges
Andy Coulson has denied charges of phone hacking and bribing public officials during his time as a journalist.
The former Downing Street spokesman denied one count of illegally intercepting communications and two counts of paying public officials for information.
He was released on bail from Southwark Crown Court.
Author Tom Sharpe Dies Aged 85
Porterhouse Blue author Tom Sharpe has died aged 85.
Born in 1928, the satirical author wrote 16 novels, with the Wilt Inheritance being his last in 2010.
He died on Thursday in the north-eastern Spainish coastal town of Llafranc.
Mr Sharpe was married and had three sons.
76-Year-Old Pilot Crash-Lands Plane In Garden
A 76-year-old pilot has crash-landed his light aircraft in the garden of a house in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.
The single-engine Cirrus deployed a parachute via an onboard emergency system, which lowered the plane to the ground.
The pilot survived with minor injuries and no one else was hurt.

Levy wins prestigious Whitbread book prize
Andrea Levy has won the prestigious Whitbread Book of the Year Award for her novel, 'Small Island'. The London-based author collected the main prize after 'Small Island' was also named Whitbread Novel of the Year at last night's award ceremony, which took place at the Brewery in London.

Sir Terry Pratchett Dies Aged 66
Author Sir Terry Pratchett has died aged 66. The creator of the Discworld series had been living with Alzheimer's disease for the last eight years. Sir Terry's publisher, Transworld, released the news that the author died at home, surrounded by his family, "with his cat sleeping on his bed".

Soldier heading home on leave is shot dead
A 20-year-old British soldier, who had just returned home on leave, has been shot dead during what appears to have been an attempted mugging at the weekend. Neral Sharpe – who had been serving with the Queen's Royal Hussars in Germany – was shot once in the stomach during the incident, which occurred in Smethwick, West Midland, at around 4.

The AA clarifies position on motorway speed limits
The AA Motoring Trust has clarified reports that it has backed calls for an 80 mph limit on motorways. The motoring organisation has confirmed that a suggested pilot scheme for a limit of 80mph related only to certain controlled motorway sections, such as those that are in place on the M25 near Heathrow.
