One Step Closer For Live Broadcasting In Courts
Live television broadcasting in courts, for the first time, is one step closer after receiving final approval in the House of Commons.
From next month broadcasting will be allowed for criminal and civil cases in the Court of Appeal, where filming will be allowed of the legal arguments and the final judgment.
Courts Minister Helen Grant said: "Justice must be seen to be done, that is why we are introducing limited television broadcasting in courts from next month.
"We are opening up the court process to allow people to see and hear the judges’ decisions in their own words, but we will also ensure that victims and witnesses will not be filmed and will remain protected.
"The Government then intends to extend filming to allow the broadcast of sentencing remarks in the Crown Court. However victims, witnesses, offenders and jurors will continue to be protected, and will not be part of broadcasts."
The proposals will now be debated in the House of Lords prior to coming into effect in October.

Man Douses Himself In Petrol Outside BBC Office
A man has doused himself in petrol outside the BBC's central London office. According to reports, a man was outside BBC New Broadcasting House in Portland Place at about 09:10 this morning when he started causing a disturbance. He proceeded to douse himself in petrol. Security guards restrained the man while waiting for police.

Teen rapist sentenced to nine years in prison
A teenager who raped an 11-year-old girl in the toilets of a supermarket has been sentenced to nine years detention. The 15-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, assaulted the girl at Sainsbury's store in Lemington Spa, Warwickshire, in March 2.

Domestic Violence Victims To Receive Extra Support
Victims of Domestic Violence will receive extra help and support from 18 new Specialist Domestic Violence Courts, Justice Minister Bridget Prentice has announced. The new courts will be located in Eastern England, East Midlands, London, North East, North West, South West, West Midlands and Yorkshire and Humberside.
