Murder Investigation After Flat Balcony Fall

A murder investigation is under way after a man fell from the balcony of an eighth floor flat in Coventry.

Emergency services were called to Eden Street shortly after 11.20pm on Wednesday night by a passer-by saw a person lying on the road.

The man, who is believed to be in his early 30s, was pronounced dead shortly after midnight.

A murder investigation was immediately launched. An area on the street was also cordoned off as well as an eighth-floor flat from which the victim is believed to have fallen.

Commenting on the investigation, Detective Inspector Derek Packham said: "We are treating this death as suspicious and are actively following up several lines of enquiry today.

"We are still speaking to witnesses at the scene this morning and I am keen to hear from anyone in the area who saw anything which may help us with our investigation.

"Perhaps you saw the man drop from the balcony or heard a disturbance in the moments before or after he fell – please speak to officers at the scene or give us a call."

Unlicensed Minicab Driver Jailed For Killing Passenger
An unlicensed minicab driver has been jailed for eight years for causing the death of a passenger. Matab Uddin, 59, of Blackshots Lane, Essex was found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving and fraud. The court heard how police were called on Sunday, 17 November 2013 at about 1:45am to reports of a man injured on Essex Road.

Shoreham Air Crash Inquests Begin
Inquests into the deaths of 11 people killed in the Shoreham Airshow crash last month are to begin. A total of 11 people were killed on 22 August when a vintage Hawker Hunter jet crashed into traffic on the A27 in Shoreham. The jet was performing as part of the nearby airshow.
