Zookeeper Injured In An Incident 'Involving A Rhino'

An investigation has been launched after a zookeeper at Whipsnade Zoo in Bedfordshire was found in an enclosure with serious injuries.

The man, said to be in his 50s, is understood to have been found by colleagues. He was discovered "in water", having suffered injuries to his chest, abdomen and pelvis following an "incident involving a rhino".

He is described as being in a serious but stable condition at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge.

"At approximately 08:15 GMT an injured keeper was found by other members of staff in an enclosure," a spokesperson for the zoo said. "Emergency services were immediately called. The keeper was treated by paramedics at the scene and has been taken to hospital."

Investigations into the incident have been launched by the Health and Safety Executive and Central Beds Council.

Body Found After 'Chemical Incident' In Kent
A body has been discovered following a 'chemical incident' at a property in Kent. Six fire crews were called to the scene on Sunday (10 May) after 9:30pm. Police and ambulance services retreated due to a strong toxic substance smell at the property in Tideswell Close, Braintree. Firefighters entered the building and discovered a body.

Toddler Shot With Air Gun
A toddler is critically ill in hospital after being shot in the head with an airgun. The 18-month-old boy suffered serious head injuries in the incident in the Washwood Heath area of Birminham at 6.40pm on Sunday. He was taken to Birmingham Children's Hospital. An ambulance, two rapid response vehicles and a doctor were sent to the scene.
