Police Appeal After Man Goes Missing From Coatbridge
Police officers in Lanarkshire are appealing to the public for help in tracing a 49-year-old man who has gone missing from his home in Coatbridge.
Brian Ritchie was last seen leaving his address in High Burnside Avenue earlier today, Wednesday 7 January 2015.
He is described as being 5'8" tall, heavy build, short cropped dark hair and is believed to be wearing jeans and a black zipper top with a "sons of anarchy" logo and writing on the sleeves. He also has a scar on his lip, numerous tattoos and could be wearing a Hi Vis vest.
Police believe he may be in the surrounding Coatbridge area.
Man Injured In Liverpool Shooting Incident
Merseyside Police are appealing for information following an injury at a shooting in Bootle on Tuesday, 6 January.
Officers were called to the Hornby Boulevard area, close to Violet Road, at around 1.30pm, following a number of reports that shots had been heard and a man had been injured.
A further report was received, just after 1.30pm, that the front window of a house in Daniel Close had been damaged.
A 21-year-old man received injuries to his buttocks consistent with a firearm being discharged. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
Officers are carrying out an extensive search of the area and house-to-house inquiries are being carried out. No-one else is believed to have been injured as a result of the incident.
New Leisure Centres To Be Developed In Sheffield
Planning applications have been approved for two new leisure centres in Sheffield.
The developments, incorporating swimming pools and gyms as well as health and research facilities as part of the National Centre for Sport and Exercise Medicine (NCSEM), will be built on the site of the current Graves tennis and leisure centre in the south of the city, and on a corner of Thorncliffe Recreation Ground in High Green.
The £16m Graves development will include a six-lane 25m replacement for the existing swimming pool, a separate learner pool, a new fitness suite and studios, two additional indoor tennis courts and a gymnastics and trampolining centre.
The £7m North Active complex in High Green is set to include a six-lane 25m swimming pool and learner pool, a multi-use studio and a fitness suite, over two levels.
It will also house NCSEM facilities including health consulting rooms, treatment rooms and space for other services such as podiatry.
Funding for the schemes will come from bodies including Sheffield City Council, the NCSEM, the Lawn Tennis Association, Ecclesfield Parish Council, British Gymnastics and a potential contribution from Sport England.

The research, published in the British Medical Journal, found that labouring in water can relieve pain and anxiety, reducing the need for interventions to aid contractions.

Government Plans 'A Swim For All'
Swimming pools could be free for all by the London 2012 Olympics, according to the Government. The first stage of the initiative will give over 60's free admission to swimming pools. Culture, Media and Sport Secretary Andy Burnham says that the next step will be to give under-16's free entry, then everyone by 2012.

Pool cleaning chemicals linked to asthma
Research has linked the chemicals used to keep swimming pools clean to a rise in childhood asthma. The study by Belgian researchers indicates that naturally produced body fluids, sweat and urine, may react with the chlorinated compounds used in the pool water to produce a chemical cocktail that adversely affects the lungs.

A number of shopping centres across the UK have been bought by London-based Intu Properties, in a deal understood to be worth almost £600m. The property company has reportedly paid almost £400m for the Westfield Centre in Derby, which was the first Westfield shopping centre to open in the UK in 2007.

MoJ Confirm Plan To Run Call Centres From Prisons
The Guardian has revealed a plan by the Ministry of Justice to set up call centres inside jails, as part of its work programme for prisoners. Details of the plans emerged after marketing material from an MoJ- supported company, which described the call centre scheme as a "rehabilitation revolution", were passed to the newspaper.
