Two New Tube Strikes Announced

Two new 24-hour walkouts for London Underground workers have been announced by the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union.

According to reports, the first strike action will begin at 21:00 on Tuesday, 25 August followed by another on Thursday, 27 August.

Unexploded WWII Bomb Uncovered In Bethnal Green

An unexploded World War Two bomb has been uncovered by contractors in east London.

The 500lb bomb was found on Monday afternoon in the basement of a building site in Bethnal Green, leading to the evacuation of more than 150 people.

An exclusion zone was extended to 200m around the site leading to a further evacuation, with residents spending the night at Bethnal Green Academy.

Army bomb disposal experts are understood to still be examining the site and how to make the explosive safe.

51-Year-Old Woman Charged With IT Company Fraud

A 51-year-old woman has been charged with defrauding an IT company of almost £600,000.

Susan Elaine Rennie, of Martin Avenue, Lytham, Blackpool, is charged with fraud by abuse of position.

She is accused of making more than £580,000 in fraudulent transactions at a Bolton-based IT company.

She is due before Bolton Magistrates' Court on 25 August 2015.

More Than 70 Firefighters Tackle Hackney Blaze
More than 70 firefighters are tackling a blaze at a range of shops on Yorkton Street in Hackney. London Fire Brigade responded to a call just after 13:00 of thick black smoke, that is said to be visible for miles. Residents are advised to keep their windows and doors closed.

Two In Court Over Flat Fire Deaths
Two men have been charged with the murder of a teenage girl and her grandmother, who died in a fire in east London. The bodies of Shannen Vickers, 17, and Pauline Adams, 57, were discovered on the fifth floor of Malmesbury House, Cyprus Street in Bethnal Green, on Sunday morining.

At least 50 killed in Bombay bombings
Update: At least 50 people have been killed and around 120 wounded in two car bomb explosions, according to reports emerging today from the Indian city of Mumbai (Bombay).

Life sentence for student killer
A man who killed a female law student has been jailed for life. Christopher Duncan, 21, from Bethnal Green, east London, had pleaded guilty to the murder of Jagdip Najran, 26, last week. The court heard how Duncan met Ms Najran at a karaoke night a few weeks before the murder, in May 2004.

Families of Omagh bomb victims receive cash support
Northern Ireland Secretary of State Paul Murphy has confirmed that the government will provide £800,000 to the families of the Omagh bomb victims in their fight to bring those responsible to justice. To date only one person, Colm Murphy, has been convicted in connection to the Real IRA blast which killed 29 people in August 1998.
