Two in court over body builder's murder

Two men have appeared in court this morning charged in connection with the murder of a body builder outside a gym in Hertfordshire last year.

David King, who came from Stevenage, was shot dead outside a gym in Brewery Road, Hoddesdon. He was killed with an AK47 Kalashnikov rifle - the first time this type of weapon, designed for battlefield use, had been used in automatic mode on the streets of mainland Britain.

Roger Vincent, 32, from Penn in Buckinghamshire, and David Smith, 32, from Schubert Road, Elstree, have both been charged with the murder of 32-year-old David King in Hoddesdon on October 3, 2003. The pair appeared before Stevenage Magistrates Court this morning.

Mr Vincent, along with another man, was arrested on Monday evening at Heathrow Airport as he returned to the UK on a flight from Malaga in Spain.

The other man, aged 39 and from Goffs Oak, was bailed by police on Tuesday evening and is due to return to a police station in Hertfordshire on September 8, 2004 pending further enquiries.

David Smith was arrested in Schubert Road, Elstree – also on Monday, August 2.
