Body find confirmed as Joanne Nelson

A post-mortem examination has confirmed that the body discovered by police yesterday is that of missing Hull woman, Joanne Nelson.

The post-mortem established the cause of death was strangulation.

Miss Nelson, 22, a Jobcentre worker, was reported missing on Valentine's Day by her fiance, Paul Dyson.

Mr Dyson was later arrested and charged with her murder. He was remanded in custody at Hull Crown Court last month and is due to reappear in court on May 4.

Police discovered the body yesterday, concealed in woodland, near the village of Brandsby in North Yorkshire.

The search for Joanne Nelson is reported to be one of the largest ever conducted by Humberside Police, involving hundreds of volunteers, soldiers and specialised rescue teams, searching areas in East and North Yorkshire.

However, the search had been hampered by the heavy snow, which affected the area last month.

Her family had described her as "a lovely, homely girl" who was looking forward to getting married. Her mother, Jean Nelson, was reporteded as saying: "Everyone she has ever known has only positive things to say about her".
