Man who shot himself following police chase named
The man who shot himself dead on the M1 motorway following a police chase has been named.
Graham Jenkins, 44, from Hereford, is believed to have rowed with his girlfriend before leaving her house and driving off, in the early hours of Thursday morning.
South Yorkshire Police said that officers went to an address in Thorne, near Doncaster, after receiving information from another police force. A man left the address and drove off “at speed”, and officers followed him, chasing the man for around 50 miles, before his car was stopped on the M1 near Nottingham.
Officers then fired a baton round at the man, who had a firearm, but the man then turned the gun on himself.
A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said: “As a result of information received from another force, South Yorkshire officers made enquiries at an address in Thorne, Doncaster.
“Shortly after midnight a man left the address and drove off at speed. Police officers pursued the vehicle southbound on the M1 bringing it to a halt using standard road policing tactics, between junctions 27 and 26.
“The man was in possession of a firearm. Officers fired a baton round at the man, who then turned the firearm at himself.
“Police officers immediately administered first aid but the man was pronounced dead en route to the Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham.”
The incident led to the closure of the motorway between junctions 26 and 27, although it has since reopened.
The incident has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

Investigation continues as armed officers shoot man dead
Investigations were continuing today following the killing of a 23-year old man by armed officers from the Metropolitan Police in the Thornton Heath area of south London. According to police, a handgun was recovered at the scene of the shooting, which took place at around 11.25am on Wednesday in Raymead Passage, London Road in Thornton Heath.

Man Shot Dead By Police In North London
A man has been shot dead by police officers in north London. The 43-year-old victim was killed at an address at Picardy House, Cedar Road, Enfield on 30 August. Officers were alerted at 9:35pm of a man at an address in Barnet making threats to kill and in possession of what was believed to be a firearm.

Armed Man Shot By Police
A man in his 40's has been shot by police officers following reports that a man was armed and intending to harm himself and others in Knaphill, Woking. Officers from the Surrey Police attended an address in Oak Tree Road just after 10pm last night. He has been taken to St George's Hospital in Tooting where he is being treated.
