Network Rail launches level crossing warning campaign

Network Rail has launched a £3 million campaign warning people of the danger of misusing level crossings.

The Don't Run The Risk campaign includes a television advert which shows the damage caused by a train hitting a car on a level crossing.

The campaign will also include radio, newspaper and cinema adverts, as well as information leaflets, which will be delivered to more than one million households.

Misusing level crossings now represents the biggest single risk of train accidents.

Network Rail Chief Executive John Armitt said that too many people were dying on level crossings each year. He said: "It aims to shake the complacency of level crossing users who endanger themselves and others.

"We are telling them not to run the risk."
