A 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of two counts of attempted murder, while a 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

The two shooting incidents took place within half an hour of each other on Wednesday night.

In the first incident, a man was seriously injured after he was shot in Upper Street, Islington, just before 7pm.

The victim, who is believed to be in his thirties, is still in hospital and police said that he was in a critical, but stable, condition.

Around half an hour later, a woman in her twenties was shot in the back at Finsbury Park tube station. She was also taken to her hospital, but her injuries were not life-threatening and she was later discharged from hospital.
