Man In Hospital After Police Shooting

A man is in a serious condition in hospital after being shot by police in West Yorkshire.

The 44-year-old man is being treated in Huddersfield Royal Infirmary for gunshot wounds, police have said.

Firearms officers responded to a 999 call reporting an incident at a house in Brighouse, near Halifax, west Yorkshire, just after midnight.

An Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) spokesman confirmed it is investigating the circumstances of the incident.

"West Yorkshire Police firearms officers responded to a 999 call reporting a domestic incident at a house in Whinney Hill Park, Bridghouse at approximately 0010 GMT," an IPCC statement read.

"Following the arrival of the firearms officers there was a disturbance in the house during which a police firearm was discharged."

Fire At Police Firearms Training Centre
Firefighters remain at the scene of a fire, at the new police firearms training centre site at Valley Road, Portishead. Avon Fire and Rescue Service crews arrived on the scene just after 4.30am on tuesday (27 August) where they found a well-developed fire affecting the building, which is currently under construction.
