Man remanded over teen's stabbing

A teenager has appeared in court charged with murdering a boy who was celebrating his 16th birthday.

Glen Corner died in hospital after being stabbed in an incident in South Shields, Tyne and Wear, on Friday night.

Lee Firman, 18, from Thornholme Avenue in South Shields, appeared at South Tyneside Magistrates on Monday and was remanded until September 6, when he is due to appear before Newcastle Crown Court.

A 43-year-old woman and a 15-year-old boy, who were also arrested in connection with the investigation, have been released on bail.

Labour Win South Shields By-Election
Labour has won the South Shields parliamentary by-election. While it still retains a seat it has held since 1935, the party did see its majority reduced in the poll. The UK Independence Party (UKIP) finished second in Thursday's election with 24% share of the vote, while the Conservatives fell to third.

Boy shot dead in south London 'bike chase'
A 16-year-old boy has been shot dead after he was apparently chased by a group of youths on bicycles in south London. Police were called to Cassell House in Stockwell just after midnight on Thursday following reports that shots had been fired. Officers found the teenager suffering from gunshot wounds and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Teen in court over stabbing death
A 17-year-old has appeared in court charged with the murder of a woman stabbed to death on a south London street. The youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is accused of murdering Carmelita Tulloch, 51. Mrs Tulloch, who has two daughters and a granddaughter, was attacked as she walked to work around 9am on Tuesday morning.

Man Admits Causing Toddler Death Blast
A man has admitted causing a blast which killed a toddler and destroyed eight homes in Greater Manchester. Two-year-old Jamie Heaton was killed in a gas explosion as he watched television at home in Buckley Street, Shaw. Andrew Partington, 27, has pleaded guilty to manslaughter at Manchester Crown Court. The accused appeared via videolink.

Jersey Killer Admits Manslaughter But Denies Murder
The man charged with the fatal stabbings of six people on the island of Jersey last year has pleaded guilty to manslaughter through diminished responsibility, but denied murder.
